Love this! Reminds me of another incredible artist I have posted about.
This is the work of Italian fibre artist Ilaria Margutti. Margutti was born in Modena, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence. She used to restore old paintings, and now she teaches drawing and art history. Margutti has exhibited all over Italy and abroad. She began adding embroidery to her artwork in 2007, a medium she found “best represents her poetry.”
Her embroidery pieces often depict women stitching their own bodies, here is an expert about her work from her website…
“The new birth is possible thanks to the act of stitching oneself. Stitching a new self. Rebuilding it stitch after stitch, knot after knot and becoming its creator and mother. Taking care of a wounded body and giving back to it energy and trust.”
