I have been a huge fan of artist Tara Donovan for a long time now, and I’m amazed every time I see photos of her work. I can’t get over what she can do with basic everyday items! Plastic straws, buttons, styrofoam cups, fishing line… all cheap and accessible. It’s incredible how she turns these simple man-made objects into complex organic-like forms.
Donovan’s work has been exhibited all over the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and she has received many awards, like the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Award.
Oh, how I wish I could see her work in the flesh! Her upcoming exhibitions can be found on her artist page on the Pace Gallery website. There is also a great little video on the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art website, where Donovan explains her process.
