Naomi Okubo…

Whoa! I am completely smitten with these paintings!

Japanese artist Naomi Okubo paints about relationships with ourselves and other people based on our appearance.  Media sources, especially in fashion, create a unattainable standard that, as a viewer, we struggle to live up to.  We all need to feel accepted and valued, which means we are sometimes stuck between wanting to fit in and trying to stand out.  Although the artist’s work is personal, it is something we can all relate to.  View more and read the artist’s statement on her website.
